Air purifying house plants

When imagining my dream house, I always want it to have a garden either big or small depending on the space. And even if I’m not a plant person I still want to have one because it makes the air around the house cool and fresh.

Since I’m living at the heart of the City and we don’t have space for a garden so an indoor house plant is a must to improve the air quality inside our home.

Here’s a factual research from NASA about houseplants, NASA discovered that houseplants can absorb harmful toxins from the air, especially in enclosed spaces with little air flow. This study has been the basis for newer studies about indoor plants and their air cleaning abilities. While plants have less horse power than air purifiers, they’re more natural, cost effective, and therapeutic.

Plants are also known to:
  •  increase mood and productivity
  •   enhance concentration and memory
  •   reduce stress and fatigue
  •   reduce sick building syndromes; like headaches, nausea, irritation in the eyes, throat, or nose, coughing, dry or itchy skin, inability to focus, allergies

NASA also found out that these plants absorb toxins, such as nitrogen oxides and formaldehyde.

These are few of the common air purifying plants:

SNAKE PLANT
Known as a bedroom plant. It converts CO2 into Oxygen at night.

BOSTON FERN
It act as a natural air humidifier, removes formaldehyde and is a general air purifier. It is among the best in air purifying houseplants.

ALOE VERA
Not only can it be used for burns on the skin, it is also known to remove formaldehyde from the air.

ENGLISH IVY
It's known for removing the chemical benzene, a known carcinogen found in cigarette smoke, detergents, pesticides, and the off-gasing of other synthetic materials, is said to be fantastic for asthma and allergies and also removes formaldehyde.

For a few of us that don’t have the green thumb, these plants are perfect since they don’t require too much attention and they are inexpensive.
